Rutgers Women’s Lacrosse Announces Recruiting Class

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s lacrosse signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Laura Brand-Sias announced.

The distinguished group, consisting of Samantha Budd (West Deptford, N.J.), Brianna Cirino (Royersford, Pa.), Jordan Drab (Suffern, N.Y.), Monica Dresnin (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), and Samantha Scarpello (Shamong, N.J.), will join the Scarlet Knights for the 2017 season.

“This class presents a great mix of pure grit and athleticism along with an impressive skill set,” Brand-Sias said. “Each member brings a passion for competition and a tireless work ethic that is exactly what our program embodies as we continue our quest in the Big Ten. We look forward to this group being outstanding ambassadors for Rutgers women’s lacrosse both on and off the field.”

Samantha Budd
Midfield | 5-3
West Deptford, N.J. | West Deptford

Prior to Rutgers: A four-year girl’s lacrosse starter at West Deptford High School, serving as captain her junior and senior seasons … named first team all-conference as a junior and sophomore … collected second team all-South Jersey honors her junior season … surpassed 100-career goals in her sophomore campaign … helped West Deptford to three conference championships … the team won the Gloucester County Cup her rookie year … a four-year letterwinner in soccer and three-year letterwinner basketball … a first team all-conference soccer player in her first three seasons … helped basketball to a South Jersey Group II title as a sophomore.

Personal: Daughter of Paul and Mana … has two siblings, Caitlin and Christopher … undeclared major.

Brianna Cirino
Midfield | 5-2
Royersford, Pa. | Spring-Ford High School

Prior to Rutgers:  A four-year starter at Spring-Ford High School … 2014 Brine All-American and 2013 Under Armour All-American … tabbed Nike Elite 120 in 2014 and 2013 … a first team all-conference selection as a sophomore and junior … has scored more than 100 goals in her career … led team in goals as a junior … member of Phantastix Lacrosse Club … a four-year starter on the Spring-Ford High School girls’ soccer team, which won two conference titles and made it to the state finals … a two-time all-conference player in soccer … earned distinguished honors in the classroom through first three years at Spring-Ford.

Personal: Daughter of Tom and Trish … has three siblings: Thomas, Andrew, and Kristina … intends to major in exercise science and sport studies.

Jordan Drab
Attack | 5-8
Suffern, N.Y. | Suffern

Prior to Rutgers: A three-year starter on the Suffern High School girl’s lacrosse team … named all-county second team, all-section, and all-league in each of her first three seasons … tallied 106 goals and 30 assists for a 136-point junior campaign … also competed in gymnastics, tennis, and basketball at Suffern.

Personal: Daughter of Kirsten and Michael … has two siblings, Reilly and Callie … undeclared major.

Monica Dresnin
Attack | 5-4
Lafayette Hill, Pa. | Plymouth Whitemarsh

Prior to Rutgers: A four-year letterwinner on the Plymouth Whitemarsh girl’s lacrosse team … named team MVP as a sophomore after recording 46 goals, 26 assists, 22 caused turnovers, 31 ground balls, and 45 draw controls … a Suburban One All-League First Team selection in 2014 … a two-time member of the Philadelphia Region National Tournament Team and Philadelphia Under Armour Underclass Team … as a freshman, tallied 24 goals, 16 assists, 14 caused turnovers, 17 ground balls, and 23 draw controls … a six-year member of the Ultimate Goal Lacrosse Club … a two-year varsity girl’s soccer player … a high honor roll (2015) and honor roll (2014, 2013) recipient in the classroom … awarded a certificate of excellence from the Association of Foreign Language Teachers in Montgomery County.

Personal: Daughter of Doug and Lisa … her father, Doug, played college football and lacrosse at Kutztown University … has two brothers, Adam and Brian … undeclared major.

Defense/Midfield | 5-8
Shamong, N.J. | Seneca

Prior to Rutgers: A four-year varsity starter and two-year captain on the Seneca High School girl’s lacrosse team … a second team all-South Jersey honoree and first team all-confernece selection as a junior … named first team all-conference as a sophomore … tabbed Nike Elite 120 as a freshman and sophomore … placed on the New Jersey South Team her sophomore year … winner of the Seneca High School Fearless Leader Award … four-year letterwinner and three-year girl’s basketball starter, also serving as captain … played two years of soccer … elected Seneca High School Student Body President … a National Honor Society member.

Personal: Daughter of Jim and Carla … has three siblings: JJ, Tommy, and Luke … her mother, Carla Vesper Scarpello, played basketball and soccer at Marymount College … her cousin, Kyle Grato, was a men’s soccer letterwinner at Rutgers … cousins Collin and Christian Scarpello are members of the Rutgers men’s lacrosse team … her cousin, Nicholas Scarpello, was a four-year cross country letterwinner at Penn State and captain as a senior.
