Coach Pete Ginnegar previews the Claremont MCLA-1 Men’s Lacrosse season

0 Comments 07 January 2013

It’s January and the 2013 Spring Lacrosse season is rapidly approaching.  Lax Daily is beating the bushes to get you as much coverage as possible of the upcoming season, from every division, college to high school, state-to-state, men/women/boys/girls.

We were able to catch Pete Ginnegar, Head Coach of the MCLA-1 Claremount Cougars (or “Cougs” as they like to be called), with som spare time during a transcontinental flight.  We asked him to give us an in depth season preview for smallest MCLA division school in the country…
Lax Daily: How did the Cougars do during Fall ball, as a team and individually?

Coach Ginnegar: Fall ball for us is really a different animal than most teams…because as an NCAA Div. III school, a fair amount of our players also play fall sports, mostly football and occasionally soccer. Additionally due to the academics rigors of the colleges, some player must take a lab that runs during the fall practice times, so they may only make perhaps one practice a week so we really just strive to work mostly on individual skill development and we generally don’t get to much into our offensive and defensive systems. We generally have one controlled scrimmage in the fall, and it just gives us a general sense of where we think we might be in the spring, but we really never know until we get the full roster back in January.

Lax Daily: How will that affect your planning for the 2013 Spring season?

Coach Ginnegar: We really don’t put to much credence into what happens in the fall. In the past we used to play in various fall tournaments with a limited squad, and found that if you don’t show well, it does create a negative perception about the program that can be hard to overcome in the spring. As I stated above, the fall is used for us as a teaching environment, and we are not concerned about the competition.
