UNH Women’s Lacrosse Announces 2013 Schedule

No Comments 09 January 2013

DURHAM, N.H.Sarah Albrecht, first year head coach of the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, has announced the Wildcats’ schedule for the upcoming 2013 season.

UNH’s 16-game regular-season slate is comprised of 10 non-conference games and six America East conference games; it includes seven home games split between Memorial Field and Cowell Stadium. The Wildcats are scheduled to battle four 2012 NCAA tournament teams.

New Hampshire begins practice Jan. 18 and Albrecht will make her head coaching debut Feb. 16 at Hofstra University. The Wildcats, whose entire coaching staff was at the University of Massachusetts in ’12 (two coaches, one student-athlete), play host to UMass – a team that finished 19-2 a year ago – for their Feb. 23 home opener.

The ‘Cats close February and begin a stretch of four consecutive road games against intrastate rival Dartmouth College (12-5, Ivy League champs in 2012) on the 27th, then open March against another New England foe, University of Connecticut (10-6 in ’12), on the 6th. The road swing continues March 13 at Navy – another NCAA tourney team from a year ago (18-3 overall record) – and concludes March 16 at Longwood University.

New Hampshire returns home to play Ivy League foe Columbia University at Memorial Field on March 19. UNH opens America East play on the road against defending conference champion University at Albany on March 24. The month ends with a Memorial Field matchup against non-league foe Iona College (9-7 in ’12) on March 27.

The Wildcats return to conference play at home against the University of Vermont on April 3, when the team will make its Cowell Stadium debut. America East action continues April 6 at Binghamton University and is followed by a season-long three-game homestand.

Boston College (10-8) travels to Durham for an April 10 matchup at Memorial Field. Up next is Stony Brook University on April 13 – also at Memorial Field – and UNH’s Senior Day will be April 17 against league rival Boston University at Cowell Stadium.

The ‘Cats end the regular season with road games against Fairfield University (April 20), which went 13-4 overall and unbeaten in MAAC conference play, and UMBC (April 27).

UNH looks to extend its conference record of consecutive tournament appearances to 16 years when the America East Championship begins May 2 with a pair of semifinal games. The league tourney champion will be crowned May 4.
